ABOUT MUM
A Community Wellness Health Hub
Mane Up Memphis™ was founded in 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee, as a community-based health hub supporting overall community wellness across Memphis and West Tennessee. We provide in-house programs and services while also aligning referrals and communication pathways across local systems so individuals and families can more easily access mental health and wellness support.
Our approach combines direct service delivery with coordination across schools, community organizations, and public systems. This strengthens consistency in service delivery and reduces effective programs being underutilized due to lack of awareness.
Mane Up Memphis™ is informed by research examining how mental health influences patterns of behavior and community stability. We translate this knowledge into coordinated, real-time practice through in-house programming, data-informed service delivery, and measurable community outcomes.

Racheal Shantel
Founder and Executive Director of Mane Up Memphis™, a community wellness health hub designed to equip communities with the resources needed to understand, navigate, and heal from trauma. She founded the organization to support healthier decision-making through coordinated mental health, emotional regulation, and wellness services delivered with dignity and intention.
Racheal holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, a certificate in Local Government Management, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Affairs with a focus on Governance and Policy. Her academic work examines how cities organize behavior through social structures and shared norms, and how mental and behavioral health shape how people participate in and respond to those systems. As she explains, “I study how everyday mental and behavioral health issues affect community wellness and how cities sustain themselves.”
Mane Up Memphis™ serves as the applied, real-time practice of this research. Under Racheal’s leadership, the organization provides in-house services including individual counseling, trauma-informed care, and youth support, while also coordinating mental health and wellness resources across schools, community organizations, and public systems.
Racheal’s background in urban planning and local government management informs the organization’s understanding that a city is not only physical infrastructure, but a network of shared ways of thinking and behaving. Mane Up Memphis™ was built to intervene where mental strain disrupts these patterns, particularly for individuals navigating the “gray area” before instability escalates into crisis.
Racheal’s leadership bridges research, planning, and lived understanding of community needs. Her work centers on translating academic insight into practice, helping individuals regulate their responses, engage more consistently with their environments, and strengthen the collective norms that support community stability.
